Dr. Martinez, Professor Emeritus, addresses issues about inner city populations and immigrants by working to reduce education and health disparities. Her research interests include Spanish development and dialectology, using technology for health education of low literate populations, phonology, and non-discriminatory assessment. She also works with international capacity building. Dr. Martinez was the ASHA Director for Multicultural Education and Practices and served in the Executive Board of the National Black Speech Language and Hearing Association. She also was the Vice-President of the ASHA Hispanic Caucus. Currently she is the Asso. Coordinater for ASHA SIG 17 - International Affairs and Asso. Chair of the ASHA Honors Committee. Through ASHA and the IALP she mentors international professionals. She has numerous presentations, and has written articles and chapters, as well as published books. For her professional work, she has received numerous awards.
